How does AI image brightening work?

ImResizer uses Zero-DCE (Zero-Reference Deep Curve Estimation), an AI model designed specifically for low-light enhancement. Unlike a simple brightness slider that lifts all pixels equally, it estimates pixel-wise curve parameters to selectively brighten dark regions while preserving highlights. This produces more natural-looking results.

What's the difference between Light, Medium, and Strong?

Each strength level applies a different number of enhancement passes. Light applies a single pass for subtle brightening. Medium (default) applies 3 passes for moderate enhancement. Strong applies 5 passes for maximum brightening of very dark images.

Will brightening add noise to my photo?

Brightening dark areas can reveal noise that was hidden in the shadows. If you notice this, enable the 'Denoise after brightening' option to apply a lightweight noise reduction pass after enhancement.

Can I lighten multiple photos at once?

Yes. You can upload multiple images at once and they will all be processed in your browser. When done, you can download all brightened photos together as a ZIP file.

Can I use this on night photos?

Yes. Zero-DCE is designed for low-light enhancement including night photography. It works well on underexposed, dimly lit, and nighttime photos. Very dark photos may benefit from the Strong enhancement setting.

How is this different from just adjusting brightness in my phone?

A regular brightness slider lifts all pixels equally, which often washes out highlights and looks unnatural. Zero-DCE uses AI to selectively enhance dark regions while protecting already-bright areas, producing more balanced and natural results.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes. The AI model is only about 2MB, making it lightweight enough to run smoothly on mobile devices including iOS Safari and Android Chrome. All processing happens locally in your browser.
